Budget Analyst with the Nevada Department of Corrections

Salary Range

$60,635.52 to $90,180.72 based on employer/employee retirement plan.

Overview

Come be part of a fiscal team at the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) and tackle the challenge of helping us build and manage the department-wide biennial budget. Incumbents work closely with their assigned facilities, institutions, and programs to understand the operations and fiscal needs to accomplish the NDOC mission.

Budget Analysts prepare and implement budgets, including developing expenditure projections, narrative justification of programs, and detailed biennial spending plans; review and analyze budget requests and adjustments; and ensure compliance with budgetary directives, policies, regulations, and limitations.

The incumbent will reconcile the budget status reports, maintain budget tracking information for the assigned budget accounts, prepare internal and external reports, approve journal vouchers, and review expenditure requests.

The position will prepare the biennial budget request and interim adjustments to the budget called Work Programs in Nevada Executive Budget System and perform various fiscal functions as assigned by Fiscal leadership. Incumbents should possess knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

During the biennial budget building process, incumbents may be required to work overtime and weekends to successfully develop the NDOC comprehensive budget request for the upcoming biennium.

This position is part of the NDOC Fiscal Unit team located in Carson City, Nevada at the historic Stewart Indian School and Cultural Center complex.  Work will be performed in the office Monday – Friday, during regular business hours.

Education & Experience

(Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, accounting, finance, economics, or closely related field and three years of professional budgeting, accounting, economic or management analysis and projection, staff analyst or auditing experience, one year of which was equivalent to a Budget Analyst I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
